Shocking X-ray: Doctors remove fork from penis of 70-year-old Australian man -

Doctors in Canberra have removed a 10-centimetre fork from the penis of a 70-year-old man who inserted it into his uretha in an attempt to achieve sexual gratification.

The case is considered so unusual it was written-up by three doctors in the International Journal of Surgery Case Report last month.

According to the report the man presented at Canberra Hospital emergency department with a bleeding sexual organ.

The Canberra Times says he told doctors he had inserted the piece of cutlery into his urethra almost 12 hours earlier in an attempt to achieve sexual gratification, but the fork - perhaps unsurprisingly - became stuck.

Doctors were able to feel the fork from outside and remarkable x-ray images showed the utensil wedged into the man's penis.

Medics finally removed the item using forceps and "copious lubrication" while the patient was under a general anaesthetic.

The case appears in the International Journal of Surgery Case Report published last month and is entitled "An Unusual Urethral Foreign Body".

In the document medics remark that it was rare to see objects lodged in the lower urinary tract.

Doctors explained that they wrote up the case "given the great management challenge faced by the oddity and infrequency with which a fork is encountered in the penile urethra".

“It is apparent that the human mind is uninhibited let alone creative," they wrote.

“Autoerotic stimulation with the aid of self-inserted urethral foreign bodies has been existent since time immemorial and have presented an unusual but known presentation to urologists."

According to the Canberra Times the report lists other objects found in parts of other bodies including wire, Allen keys, toothbrushes, light bulbs, thermometers, plants, vegetables, leeches, snakes and glue.

The newspaper also notes that the report says many patients try to remove items that become stuck because of embarrassment.

Their own attempts to extract the objects often result in further injuries the paper notes.

New Detroit splash park opens -- minus the water... -

Fox 2 News Headlines

The city of Detroit was hoping to make a big splash with the grand opening of a new splash park. But, to do that - you need water. Thankfully, Detroit firefighters were there to provide it after a water main break.

They served up free ice cold bottled water and delicious grilled hot dogs. The T-shirts looked good reading "Palmer Park Splash Park" and the ribbon cutting went well. Just one little glitch at the new park, there was no water! A water main break dried up the splash park for its grand opening!

"We had a mishap with a water main that broke," explained Detroit Mayor Dave Bing. "We have a water system that's 100 years old so those things happen."

But Mayor Bing did two things: he called the fire department and he called the water department. Detroit fire came to the rescue, pulling up an engine and opening a hose to cool the kids off.

"It's didn't quite go as planned," said Alex Williams who brought his daughter. "The fire department stepped up and it's made it fun for everyone."

The water department is working on the problem and we're told it should be fixed on Monday. The new state of the art splash park became a reality with a generous donation from the Lear Corporation. A city filing for bankruptcy gets a lift from Lear, a concerned corporate citizen.

CIA Finally Admits It Is Behind Iran's 1953 Coup -

In case Ben Affleck was looking for his next Oscar-winning CIA-o-mentary, the Central Intelligence Agency (which alas in a time of NSA permasnooping has become a bit of an anachronism) may have just provided the script, with the first official admission that the flipflops on the ground orchestrated at least one Iranian coup and is ostesnibly behind all other global coups (and non-coups coughegyptcough) in the past 50 years, but until they are confirmed they will remain merely "conspiracy theories."

From CNN:

A declassified CIA document acknowledges that the agency was involved in the 1953 coup that overthrew Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh.

The independent National Security Archive research institute, which published the document Monday, says the declassification is believed to mark the CIA's first formal acknowledgment of its involvement.

According to Foreign Policy, which reviewed the document, this is the key passage:

"The military coup that overthrew Mosadeq and his National Front cabinet was carried out under CIA direction as an act of U.S. foreign policy, conceived and approved at the highest levels of government."

The document was declassified in 2011. The institute published it Monday after obtaining it through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Good luck procuring the script rights, however: rumor has it the star of Chasing Amy already has an option on every CIA operation ever conducted.

Ferrari NART Spyder sets $27.5 million auction record -

A rare 1960s Ferrari convertible sold for a record $27.5 million in a weekend car auction.
The 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spyder’s price was the most paid at auction for the Italian carmaker anywhere in the world and the most for any car bought at a U.S. public sale.

“The NART Spyder is a very special car,” the U.K.-based dealer John Collins, one of the underbidders at the RM Auctions event, said in a telephone interview. “They’re so rare. They’re among the most beautiful of all Ferraris. Some of the biggest collectors in the world own one, and Steve McQueen tried to buy this one after he crashed his,” said Collins, of the Talacrest dealership.
Classic Ferrari racers from the 1950s and 1960s are the world’s most consistently valuable motor cars, dominating both the auction and private market. Prices for the marque’s investment-grade road cars have surged in 2013. The HAGI F index of collectible Ferraris has climbed 34.3 percent this year through July, according to the London-based analyst company, the Historic Automobile Group International.
The RM event forms part of a bellwether series of classic car sales on the West Coast that also includes high-value selections from Gooding & Co. and Bonhams.
Estimated by RM at $14 million to $17 million, the Ferrari had been entered by family of the late North Carolina businessman Eddie Smith Sr., the car’s one and only owner.
Racing Team
The NART Spyder -- named after the North American Racing Team -- was the brainchild of Luigi Chinetti, Ferrari’s North American importer. Only 10 were built.
Canadian fashion entrepreneur Lawrence Stroll, a motor racing enthusiast, was bidding in the room via an intermediary on Aug. 17, dealers said, who also identified Stroll as the buyer.
An after-hours call to Stroll’s New York office to confirm the purchase was not immediately returned. Stroll built Tommy Hilfiger into a global brand in the 1990s.
Proceeds of the sale of the Ferrari will be donated to charity, RM said.

Growing Number of Muscle-Obsessed Men Battling 'Bigorexia'...

It has often been perceived that women are constantly fixated on their diets. Now, a growing number of men have become obsessed with “bulking up.”

The new trend has been called “bigorexia” and it could come with some serious health consequences.

Early in his career, personal trainer Alfonso Moretti was obsessed with building his own muscles.

“It takes over your life. Every decision you make becomes the workout and how your body looks. I used to track and weigh every single ounce of food that went in my body. I used to wake up at 3 o’clock in the morning to drink protein shakes. I never missed a workout, ever, ever, ever,” he told CBS 2′s Maurice Dubois.

As many as 45-percent of men have fallen victim to bigorexia or muscle dysmorphia, according to Dr. Michele Kerulis the director of sports & health psychology at the Adler School of Professional Psychology.

“I can remember as young as 13 or 14, looking at some of these muscle magazines, and I was conditioned to think that’s what a man looked like. Big shoulders, big legs, just big muscles with veins everywhere,” Moretti said.

The emotional impact can be devastating.

“We see psychological abnormalities, including irritability, angry outbursts, which sometimes people would call ‘roid rage.’ We see depression sometimes, mania,” Dr. Kerulis said.

The excessive exercising could put men at a higher risk for physical injury, too.

Germany to become 1st European country to allow 'third gender' birth certificates... -

Germany is set to become the first country in Europe to introduce a third, "indeterminate" gender designation on birth certificates. The European Union, which is attempting to coordinate anti-discrimination efforts across member states, is lagging behind on the issue.

The option of selecting "blank", in addition to the standard choices of "male" or female" on birth certificates will become available in Germany from November 1. The legislative change allows parents to opt out of determining their baby's gender, thereby allowing those born with characteristics of both sexes to choose whether to become male or female in later life. Under the new law, individuals can also opt to remain outside the gender binary altogether.

Germany is the first country in Europe to introduce this option -- Munich-based newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung is referring to the change as a "legal revolution". It remains unclear, however, how the change will affect gender assignment in other personal documents, such as passports, which still require people to choose between two categories -- "F" for female and "M" for male. German family law publication FamRZ has called for the introduction of a third category, designated by the letter "X".
